The 2018 Inca Trail permits can start to be booked this coming October 1st. Normally this would not be available until the first week of January on the new year, however the Peruvian government has made these changes giving incoming travelers more time to book their Inca trail.
The 2018 Inca trail season will start rather quickly, this means that you won’t have to wait until next year to receive a copy of your Inca trail permit. This gives travelers more of a chance to book the trek to machu picchu in January. So far this all seems pretty good but this might also have a few downsides.
The Inca trail will likely fill up rather quickly for the first half of the year. January will likely be completely booked by the end of October, while February has the trail closed for maintenance; not to mention February is the peak of the rainy season. This makes it the least favorable month for not only trekking but also visiting the highlands. March, April and May of 2018 will be the peak months most travelers will be aiming for when booking the Inca trail. Just to play it safe, Inca trail hikers should book their trip as soon as possible if they plan on travelling for the first half of the year.
The second half of the year will likely being to fill up by April, this means that if you plan on travelling at the end of the year you will likely find spots by then. Still we can’t stress how relevant it is to book the inca trail way in advance, there are many times when hikers assume 3 months prior to travel is more than enough time. In the last few years this has been the furthest thing from the truth. If you plan on booking the 2018 Inca trail a 6 month + time frame should be taken into account.
