Greetings from Santiago, the elegant capital of Chile! Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by one of our representatives, who will assist you with your transfer to your hotel so you can relax and get settled in
Begin your day with a delicious breakfast at your hotel before embarking on a tour of Santiago. First, discover the city’s rich history as you visit the historic center, featuring landmarks such as the Plaza de Armas, the main cathedral, and the Presidential Palace. Then, gain a unique perspective of the city by taking in the breathtaking views from the top of Cerro San Cristobal. Finally, in the afternoon, feel free to explore and spend your time as you please.
Today you will explore two of the most renowned coastal cities in central Chile: Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. Valparaiso boasts a lively atmosphere with its hillside homes, each painted in vibrant hues, that offer breathtaking views of the bay. Your tour will include visiting the former summer home and museum of Pablo Neruda, a renowned Chilean poet known for his unique and quirky style. Afterward, you will travel to the serene Viña del Mar.
We start the day by heading to Santiago airport for your flight to Calama. On arrival, our transportation service will take you to an all-inclusive lodge in the desert oasis of San Pedro de Atacama. Immerse yourself in the desert experience with an afternoon excursion to the breathtaking Moon Valley, named for its moon-like terrain. Marvel at the stunning sunset that casts its warm glow over the distinctive rock and salt formations and multi-hued mountains. Get ready to be awed by the beauty of the desert.
Let’s go on an expedition to explore the Salar de Atacama, a sprawling salt field in Chile and the largest of its kind in the country. This rough, white landscape lies atop a vast underground lake and is home to a wealth of minerals and salt. At the Chaxa Lagoon in the National Flamingo Reserve, be amazed by the three species of flamingos – the James, Andean, and Chilean – that thrive in this stunning environment. In the afternoon, bask in the serenity of Laguna Cejar, where you can float effortlessly in its highly concentrated salt water.
Rise before the sun to journey to the towering heights of the Tatio Geysers, a geothermal field formed by volcanic activity. Admire the high columns of steam that reach nearly 40 feet, and for the brave, take a dip in the 17-degree Fahrenheit waters. A picnic-style breakfast will be served after your excursion, and along the way, you may encounter vicuñas, vizcachas, and a variety of birds as you stop in a small village. Finally, soak in the beauty of the Puritama hot springs in the afternoon with a relaxing dip in its scenic warm water pools.
Finally, transfer to the Calama airport for your flight back to Santiago, where you will connect independently with your international departure flight.

Chile is a year-round destination, but for this specific 7-day route:
Spring (Sept–Nov) & Fall (March–May): These are the “sweet spots” with mild temperatures in Santiago and clear, comfortable days in the desert.
Summer (Dec–Feb): Great for Valparaiso’s beaches, though the Atacama can see occasional “Altiplanic Winter” rains.
Winter (June–Aug): Best for stargazing in the desert and skiing near Santiago, but be prepared for very cold nights in Atacama (often below freezing)
San Pedro sits at approximately 2,400m (7,900 ft), but excursions like the Tatio Geysers reach over 4,300m (14,000 ft).
Acclimatization: Our itinerary is designed to visit lower-altitude sites (like Moon Valley) first.
Tips: Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals and alcohol on your first day in the desert, and consider speaking to your doctor about altitude medication if you are concerned.
Our base package price covers all ground transfers, tours, and accommodations. Domestic flights (Santiago to Calama round-trip) are typically not included in the initial quote to allow you to use miles or choose your preferred cabin class, but our team can easily add them to your final invoice upon request.
You will experience a wide range of climates. We recommend the “Onion Method” (layers):
Santiago/Coastal: Light, breathable clothing and a light jacket for the evening.
Atacama Desert: High-SPF sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses for the intense daytime sun. For the Geysers and night tours, bring a heavy thermal jacket, gloves, and a warm hat.
Swimwear: Don’t forget your swimsuit for the Cejar Lagoon (where you float like the Dead Sea) and the Puritama Hot Springs!
While tap water in Santiago is generally considered safe, it has a high mineral content that can upset some travelers’ stomachs. In the Atacama Desert, you should strictly stick to bottled or filtered water. We provide water and snacks during our guided excursions.
Our private guide in Valparaiso was so knowledgeable about the history of the port, and then arriving in San Pedro felt like stepping onto another planet. The Moon Valley sunset was the highlight of our year.

The best way to see Atacama. Everything about this trip was amazing. I’ve done group tours before, but having a private driver and guide for the Tatio Geysers made a huge difference. Floating in the Cejar Lagoon is something I’ll never forget. The 3-star boutique hotels were actually much more luxurious than I expected!

Chile has been on my list for a decade, and this 7-day itinerary hit every mark. Our Santiago city tour was the perfect intro to the country, but San Pedro was the real star. The flamingos at the salt flats were stunning, and the guides were incredibly patient with the altitude, ensuring we felt great the whole time. The team at Journey Machu Picchu really knows their stuff and communication was 10/10 from booking to departure.

This 7 Day all inclusive Chile Tour Package will have travelers visiting Santiago and Valparaiso on a private city tour before heading to Eastern Island to see the moai statues.
Visit Punta Arenas and Torres del Paine in Patagonia, customize your experience by including awe-inspiring sights such as Lago Grey and Glacier Grey with this 8 day Patagonia Tour Package.
